Monitoring and Controlling Swine Health
The team at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. is using Data Collector in fascinating ways to gather information about Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and how veterinarians can control swine health in their areas and systems.
Earlier this year, at the 2014 North American PRRS Symposium, Erin Lowe, DVM presented how veterinarians and managers are using Data Collector to enter herd and disease data and share data with other team members. The conference provided an opportunity for swine health industry leaders to share their research on PRRS and focus on how regional teams can better monitor diseases.
Erin and the BIVI team use Data Collector to streamline their dataflow from the field into the office and diagnostic laboratory. For Erin and agriculture teams, Data Collector has great potential as a means to communicate updated information between field users and project managers.
“I’m personally pleasantly surprised by the customer support and customer service. It was on the list of our needs/desires for a platform and when my intern ranked it high, she wasn’t kidding.” – Erin Lowe, DVM
Controlling PRRS and other diseases starts with the ability to collect and analyze accurate information and share it with others. As Erin discussed, “Digital information dashboards such as BioPortal and data collecting tools like Data Collector make it much easier to collect, access and share information in near real-time. When dealing with diseases like PRRS that move quickly and across large areas, having access to information, along with diagnostics, effective vaccines, and the knowledge on how to best apply them, can have a tremendous impact on a producer’s ability to successfully control it.”
