The Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation is using iForm BioRisk and EHS Form Libraries and custom-built forms to audit and verify safety procedures in labs, hospitals, and healthcare facilities in the United States and in the developing world.
In 1997, Elizabeth “Beth” Griffin died at the age of 22 while working as a primate research assistant at Emory University. At Emory, she focused on hormonal influences in Rhesus Macaques, or Rhesus Monkeys. While performing annual physicals on 100 monkeys in a research compound, Griffin was splashed in the eye. Two weeks later she was tested for the Monkey B Virus; the results were positive.
iformbuilder and ERGRF
After Griffin’s death, her parents and classmates knew they wanted to do something to make the world a safer place. In 1999, the Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation (ERGRF) was established to help prevent other tragedies like Beth’s. Since its creation, the Foundation continues to grow and support projects in the United States as well as in developing countries around the world. The ERGRF and the Association of Primate Veterinarians created Medical Alert Information Cards which are being used around the world by people who work with macaques.
The iFormBuilder Biorisk and EHS Libraries have been utilized in auditing and verifying safety procedures for laboratory biosafety, biosecurity and biocontainment as well as occupational health in hospitals and research facilities. Using iFormBuilder has allowed the ERGRF team to collect data, take photos, and make people’s lives better and safer.
