Overlay Field Data and EXIF Metadata on Photos in iFormBuilder

Apr 30, 2026

Your field teams capture hundreds of photos every day — but when those images arrive back at the office, how much context do they actually carry? A timestamped photo of an asset might prove someone was there, but it doesn’t tell the full story. What was the reading? What did the technician observe? Who took it, and under what conditions?

iFormBuilder’s new Photo Markup capability changes that. Now you can overlay form data, EXIF metadata, and even voice-to-text narratives directly onto the photos your teams collect in the field — turning raw images into audit-ready, customer-facing documentation without any post-processing.

EXIF Data, Simplified

Every photo your team takes already contains embedded EXIF data — GPS coordinates, timestamps, device information, and more. The problem is that accessing it typically requires technical tools or manual lookups that most team members don’t have time for.

Photo Markup surfaces that data visually, right on the image itself. Auditors, supervisors, and clients can see exactly where and when a photo was taken at a glance, without needing to dig into file properties or rely on a separate system to cross-reference location data.

Overlay Form Data on Your Photos

Beyond EXIF metadata, Photo Markup lets you pull in values from your form and stamp them directly onto the image. Think meter readings overlaid on a photo of the meter, inspection scores displayed on a photo of the asset, or job details burned onto a site photo for documentation purposes.

This means your photos become self-contained records — no need to flip between a form submission and an image gallery to understand what was captured. Everything your reviewer needs is in one place.

Voice-to-Text Narratives

Sometimes a photo and a data point aren’t enough — your team needs to explain what they’re seeing. With voice-to-text support in iFormBuilder, field users can dictate observations directly into the form. That narrative can then be overlaid onto the photo alongside the other data, giving reviewers and customers a complete picture without requiring the field technician to type out detailed notes on a small screen.

This is especially powerful for customer-facing deliverables. Instead of handing a client a folder of unnamed images and a separate spreadsheet, you can deliver annotated photos that tell the full story of the work that was done.

What You Can Do with Photo Markup

  • Overlay GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device info from EXIF data directly on captured images.
  • Stamp form field values — readings, scores, IDs, job details — onto photos for self-contained documentation.
  • Use voice-to-text to add field narratives that appear as text overlays on the image.
  • Create audit-ready, annotated photos without any post-processing or manual editing.
  • Deliver customer-facing documentation that combines visual proof with contextual data in one image.
